Iron & Sulfur Removal

Iron & Sulfur Removal in Santa Clara

Oxidizing filtration for foothill wells around Santa Clara Valley.

Iron, manganese and sulfur in local wells

Iron and sulfur removal in Santa Clara's surrounding area is mostly for foothill wells. Dissolved iron arrives clear and turns orange when it meets air, leaving stains on sinks, toilets and laundry. Manganese leaves dark specks. Hydrogen sulfide gives water a rotten-egg smell that is impossible to ignore.

The solution is to oxidize those dissolved minerals into particles and trap them in a media bed that cleans itself by backwashing. Air injection suits many wells; heavier sulfur or higher manganese may need a stronger oxidizer. We measure iron, manganese, sulfur and pH first, because all four guide the choice.

If the smell appears only in hot water, the cause may be your water heater's anode rod rather than the well. Replacing it can solve the problem simply, and we always check that first.

Iron and manganese levels can also shift over time, especially after a dry year, a very wet winter or work on the pump. A system set up for last year's readings may simply need its settings adjusted. Because we record every setting when we install, and retest each year as part of your care plan, those adjustments are quick and calm rather than a fresh start. Many of our well customers tell us the annual visit is the part they value most. And you will see the before-and-after iron readings on the same page as the price.

Air injection or a stronger oxidizer as needed.

  • A backwashing media tank

    Which keeps itself clean automatically.
